NOTES...

A LITTLE NOTE TO THE PEOPLE OF LAGOS...

Dear Lagosians,

Never will I get bored of your quirks, your individuality, your creativity, your splashes of color, your everything you do, your everyday you turn up...in style.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

This ol' Canon 1100D

'TODUN.

'Todun. Pronounced toh-doon and is a Yoruba name suffix which translates to "that which is sweet".

That's her name.

I'd had a particularly stressful day at work.
Side-note:Yes I work. My canon and it's photos don't pay the bills...or at least not yet ;)

So anyway, after this particularly tasking day, and the ubiquitous Lagos traffic and attendant crazy driving I experienced on the way home, as the car turned into the road to mi casa, I spotted 'Todun.

You had to be there to appreciate her regal gait. And then, as street style junkies do, I jumped out of the car and got click happy.

But at least you didn't have to be there to appreciate her black radiance. I've always loved this beautiful shiny shade of ebony, way before the world developed Lupita-mania.

So...the dress..she says her good friend in Ilorin made it for her. Pretty cool, no?

Was nice to meet you 'Todun.

And 'Todun's friend, if ever you're in Lagos...

NOTHING COMMONPLACE.

Sometimes you meet a person and you know they are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to hear, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say anything commonplace, but burn a bright color into your life like wild, wild flowers in a green, green field.

She's one of these.

Style soul.

MISS ZARA.

Comfortable, Chic, Classy.....somebody give me more "C" words to describe how cool she looks.

Cool.

QUEENS!

No back story here.

If the crown fits, wear it.

Bow To The Tie

Brother told me his bow-tie was from his own label. Not bad eh?

Now, I didn't get the name of his label. Not good eh?

Enjoy :)

TWICE AS NICE.

A couple that styles together...styles together.

Oh Gimme...

Gimme black.
Gimme beautiful.
Gimme sleek.

SILVER SHOES.

"The Silver Shoes," said the Good Witch, "have wonderful powers. And one of the most curious things about them is that they can carry you to any place in the world in three steps, and each step will be made in the wink of an eye.
All you have to do is to knock the heels together three times and command the shoes to carry you wherever you wish to go."
 - The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900) by L. Frank Baum

COTTON & ANKARA.

Cotton & Ankara is the name of an Instagram account I follow. What do I like about this account?
They have the most eye-catching photos typically with an "ankara" (traditional African patterned and colorful fabric - such as the peplum top worn here) or other ethnic theme.

You should check them out.

But first...check her out!

MATE!

Mate!

You can just tell. This man will give off that hip, fun let's-have-a-laugh-all-day Fresh Prince vibe.

And everyone needs a Mate like that.

Enjoy.

GO 'FRO!

Delightful.

She told me she's an aspiring model.

It won't be long till we see more of her. You heard it here first!

Enjoy :)

SPARRING.

So I'm a Green Belt in Karate.

I went to the Dojo religiously twice every week in Scotland and now I'm in Lagos and I need to get back into it. Quickly.

Karate is...beautiful pain. Especially when we do what's called sparring. We fight but we're not allowed to really hurt the next person. Just touch the suit.

So that's sparring for Karate.

Here below was my style subject I bumped into at Spar. If you're going to go her kind of Sparring, it's okay apply some kind of style.

This is after all, Lagos.

Enjoy :)

ALWAYS SUMMER.

This is one of the many genuinely beautiful things about being back home.

It's always Summer means we have no climate-focused style evolution.

A few moons ago, I would hear about "spring trends" or "chunky knits for fall" or "eye-popping jackets this winter". Was fun while it lasted but...well...yeah...

Our ubiquitous summer means we can ALWAYS do primary colors and maxis, and flip-flops and boho bags, and then maybe throw in the randomness of having on your daughter's head-band (she 'fessed up).

I love my Lagos.

ROYALLY.

Purple is the color that represents Royalty. Apparently.

Personally, I like his purple because of his different. His individuality.

And that's royally alright.
